Walter Van Beirendonck for Scapa

Walter Van Beirendonck is a Belgian fashion designer, part of the Antwerp Six. He established his own label in 1983, defined by unusual color combinations and a strong graphic influence. In 2006 he was appointed artistic director of Scapa Sports. The Formula 1 collection might be the most ‘Walter’ of them all. It features on overload of comic book-inspired graphic patches, that are staples in Walter’s collections. Descriptors such as Warriors, Join the rebellion and Walk on the wild reference concepts used in Walter Van Beirendonck’s own collections.

The Scapa brand itself was founded by Arlette Van Oost who got stuck on the island Orkney. The work of local knitters inspired her and rooted an authentic Belgian fashion brand. Acquiring mainstream recognition with its hand-knitted sweaters, SCAPA became a British Vogue regular in the 90’s.
